Botox And Dysport

What Is Botox and Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are injectable neurotoxins designed to relax the muscles responsible for the formation of wrinkles, offering a rejuvenated appearance. Both treatments are effective for softening or removing the natural wrinkles between the eyes (frown lines), on the forehead, at the sides of the eyes (crow’s feet), or at the base of the nose (glabellar frown lines). You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines, with results lasting up to 4 months.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE?

While both treatments serve similar purposes for wrinkle reduction, Dysport tends to spread a bit more, making it ideal for larger areas that need more diffusion. Botox, on the other hand, offers a more localized control, perfect for smaller, targeted areas.

Areas for Treatment

Botox and Dysport are quick anti-wrinkle injections that can be completed in a lunch-hour visit to our office. Common treatment areas include the forehead, around the eyes, and between the brows.

Are You A Good Candidate?

Botox and Dysport are excellent treatments for anyone, typically adults in their 30s to 60s, struggling to deal with the early signs of aging. These are safe and effective cosmetic treatments for many skin types and are effective for reducing moderate to severe facial wrinkles such as frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead creases. Candidates should be in good general health, have realistic expectations about the temporary effects of these neurotoxins, and should not be pregnant or nursing. Previous positive responses to these treatments can also indicate good candidacy.
During a consultation at Radiance at Fluhme, you will be asked about your medical history and have your skin examined to determine if you would make a good candidate for Botox or Dysport.

Botox and Dysport Pre-Care Instructions

It is best to schedule Botox and Dysport at least two to four weeks before an event to allow time for treatment to take full effect and for any swelling or mild bruising to subside. There is minimal downtime with a Botox or Dysport procedure. Patients may experience very mild swelling or bruising near the injection sites. The procedure itself is quick, with a Botox or Dysport treatment taking 10-15 minutes to complete.
To minimize bruising, avoid blood-thinning medication. One week prior to Botox or Dysport treatment, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen (generic, Advil, Aleve, or Motrin), Vitamin E, and fish oil or omega-3s. Also, avoid alcohol 48 hours prior to treatment. Drink plenty of fluids on the day of treatment.

Botox Aftercare Instructions

In most cases, Dysport and Botox patients return to their normal routines the same day after their treatment. The muscles relax within a few days of the Botox or Dysport injection, causing wrinkles to either lessen or disappear completely. The muscles remain in a relaxed state for three to five months.
Further Botox or Dysport treatment is necessary to erase returning wrinkles. After several treatments, the length of time that Botox is effective can increase, sometimes lasting up to eight months.

Aftercare tips

  • Avoid facials, rubbing, or massaging the injected area for 24 hours
  • Do not lie down for four hours after the procedure. Avoid lying on the front or stomach
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours after the procedure. Light exercise can be continued four hours after the procedure
  • Keep the face and injected area clean for several hours after the procedure

Botox side effects

In most cases, there will be no side effects from Botox or Dysport. A small percentage of patients may experience the following side effects:

  • Mild swelling around the injected areas
  • Mild bruising around the injected areas
  • A temporary headache after the procedure
  • True allergies to Botox and Dysport are rare
